My name is Ferrin Wright, and my whirlwind journey into the love of this unique breed all began with a search for a cat that wouldn’t shed. I’ve always had a love for cats, and my fiancée Robert loves them as well - but hated their fur all over everything! We came to the agreement that a hairless cat would be the best solution. As may be the case for many people, I wasn’t quite sure what to look for at first besides just a cat with no fur. I had never been to a cat show, and wasn’t sure what a show sphynx looked like. After a lot of research, I learned about the standard and learned who was actively showing their cats to meet that standard. That is how I met Blake Gipson of Bemisu Sphynx. I let Blake know that I was interested in showing as a hobby, and he agreed to sell me a show quality kitten.

I will never forget the day that I went to pick up my new baby in Denver. I had been anticipating that moment for months! I knew from my research that Sphynx were cute, but from the moment I saw my baby I was absolutely in love! I had never seen anything so beautiful, and all of the cats at Blake’s house were so friendly that I knew I had made the right choice as far as the breed I had chosen and the breeder.

A few months later, I was headed to my very first cat show with my kitten. Blake and I stayed in close contact over the first few months, and we developed a great friendship. He agreed to bring on of my kitten’s littermates to the show and help me to show my kitten. They both did very well, and we had such a wonderful time. We discussed many things, and out of that weekend of showing came the decision for me to partner in Bemisu with a Las Vegas branch.

Each of us maintains a small breeding program that ensures all of our cats are happy, healthy, and get all the love they crave. We also continually show our cats in The International Cat Association to make sure our cats are of the highest quality in our breeding program. Partnering allows us to utilize new pedigrees from each others’ catteries and both prevent inbreeding and work together to produce the best quality kittens, ensuring this amazing breed continues to progress.

I have made some great new friends in the cat fancy, and I look forward to making many more friends as every person that gets a kitten from us becomes part of the Bemisu family.
